The acceptance letter had been the happiest moment of my life. A full scholarship to one of the most prestigious universities in the country. I’d held that envelope in my hands like it was a golden ticket to freedom, the first real step toward building the life I’d always dreamed of.

The excitement didn’t last long.

One of the wealthiest students on campus, heir to Stark & Parker, and seemingly brilliant, it made no sense for him to need tutoring, especially from me. Yet there he was, week after week, with his easy smile and an energy that made it hard not to notice him. He was always happy to see me, greeting me like an old friend, even when I was running on fumes.

I didn’t get it. People like him didn’t usually cross paths with people like me, and they certainly didn’t pay me to help them with things they could easily hire professionals for. He had come to the school with his high school sweetheart, MJ, but I’d stopped seeing them together as much lately. Not that I cared. Peter’s personal life wasn’t any of my business, and I didn’t have time to dwell on it.

Every time my mind tried to wander to why Peter always booked sessions or what had happened with MJ, I stopped myself. I had bigger priorities: scraping together enough money for books this semester, keeping my GPA high enough to maintain my scholarship, and balancing work-study shifts with my other jobs. 🌙 Do We Waste Our Time?🌙

Do you ever wonder what you would do if you had the freedom not to work, had savings, and could decide how to spend your time? I had a two-year gap where I didn’t work, and I remember how I wasted that time doing nothing. Now, four years later, I feel this urge again—to give myself a break. If I have the chance to save enough money, I’d like to explore the world for half a year or even a full year.

Personally, I feel exhausted from my current job. I go to work not because I love it, but because I need a financial income to live comfortably. When I think about it, I’m haunted by the memory of those two years when I had plenty of free time but didn’t do anything meaningful. The reason? I didn’t know what I wanted. Now, I’m much more aware of my needs.

I’ve decided to take control of my life now so to not waste any more time . Here are some of my latest notes:

Plan 6 months ahead – to figure out what I want to achieve before taking a break.

Set 3 major goals – I’ll choose and focus on 3 goals to complete within one year.

Save money – I’ll ensure my finances are secure so I won’t worry during my break.

Do more creative and artistic things – These activities help me relax. For example, writing allows me to release everything I store in my mind and heart.

I must admit that change is difficult for me, and the adaptation period is often slow. But deep down, I know that the things I think about daily will eventually make me happy and fulfilled. Maybe it’s because I feel out of place right now, but I believe the day will come when someone or something will push me to finally take the first steps toward my goals and I will be proud of myself for taking risks and exploring the unknown.
